Inter Faith Week gets under way in England, Northern Ireland and Wales this weekend. From Sunday 13 to Sunday 20 November, thousands of people will be participating in events for Inter Faith Week.Â
Running since 2009, Inter Faith Week seeks to strengthen inter faith understanding and cooperation; highlight the contribution of faith groups to society; and encourage dialogue between those of religious and non-religious beliefs. It is a Week for people of all backgrounds.
Inter Faith Week in Cambridge
With partners and friends, the Cambridge Interfaith Programme is hosting and participating in a range of events.
Our week begins with a lunchtime social for those researching religion and inter-religious relations across the University of Cambridge. This is a 'bring your own' lunch event, and chance to learn more about the Interfaith Research Forum and its activities.Â
On Monday evening, we're partnering with the University of Cambridge Divinity Society (DivSoc) for a panel discussion probing the intersection of religion, faith and culture. DivSoc President Lucy Lipfriend, an undergraduate in the Faculty of Divinity, will take the chair, quizzing panellists with some assistance from the audience.Â
On Wednesday afternoon, Dr Giles Waller will take the lead at a Scriptural Reasoning workshop, partnering with Jewish and Muslim scholars to introduce and discuss texts from the Hebrew Bible, New Testament and Qur'an. This is an interactive session. If it is your first experience of Scriptural Reasoning, fear not: text packs (in English) are provided.
Beyond Cambridge
If you're at a distance from Cambridge--or simply prefer to sample events online--our extra UK Inter Faith Week offer is an online-only webinar on language learning and religious literacies: Dr Anastasia Badder (Cambridge) and Dr Jo-Ann Myers (Leo Baeck College) each share insight from Jewish schools in Luxembourg and London.
We've invited Dr Farah Ahmed (Cambridge) and Dr Leslie Moore (Ohio State) to reflect on how these case studies compare with Islamic approaches to literacy and language-learning. Those who wish to join the audience should register in advance to receive Zoom details.
