Partners in inquiry and cross-sector exchange

A meeting point for researchers and external stakeholders, the Cambridge Interfaith Knowledge Hub is supported by a dedicated partnership scheme. It operates in tandem with the Cambridge Interfaith Research Forum.

Together, the Hub and Forum support exchange and innovation in the domain of religion and inter-religious relations.

The Hub offers support for organisations outside the university interested to connect with Cambridge researchers, whether staff or students. Additionally, our convening activity facilitates connections between non-academic organisations.

Here are some examples from work already underway:

Convening communities of research-and-practice

With open webinars and by-invitation meetings, we facilitate cross-sector conversations to meet diverse needs.

[a] In 2022–23, we joined with Leo Baeck College to explore how language learning interacts with religious education.  The miniseries remains available to watch back, with a related publication due in early 2025.

[b] In spring 2024, we initiated a regular online meet-up for people working to tackle religious discrimination. Running under the Chatham House Rule, this community provides space to discuss some of the gnarlier challenges in this sensitive domain.

Fostering research collaboration

Some challenges are best addressed together. Examples of collaborations with external partners include:

[a] An Ofwat Innovation Fund project led by Cambridge Water, with a fieldwork component & conference delivered by the Cambridge Interfaith Programme—exploring different dimensions of relationship between water and religion.

[b] A knowledge exchange project with the Berlin-based NGO KIgA e.V., embedding learning from a Cambridge study of Muslim-focused Holocaust education programmes into training for European anti-racism educators.
