CIP's Dr Anastasia Badder, in collaboration with Meg Clarke and James Murray-White from Water Sensitive Cambridge, will host an exciting series of activities for anyone interested in Cam Valley’s rivers and streams.
Our river basin, the Cam Valley, is home to a vast network of these extraordinary rivers. These rare and magical bodies of water support an incredible collection of species – from damselflies to otters to trout – and us humans! Across history, the waters around Cambridge have been sites of pilgrimage, healing, enjoyment, and community.
But chalk streams are in crisis, facing the challenges of canalisation, pollution and over-abstraction. Chalk streams like Coldham’s Brook struggle through low flows and algal blooms, these stresses echo across the ecosystem. It is clear that something must be done.
A free day of talks, walks, workshops and films to learn about and connect to water in our catchment. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
Who is this event for?
Activities will centre around Cambridge United Layard Lounge at the Cambridge United Football Club.
Join us for a few sessions, or the full day. We hope these events raise awareness, understanding, and engagement with local water issues.
