In this symposium we consider what practices and techniques can be used to spark dialogue about and between religions. It incorporates a panel discussion on practices of dialogue and three workshops introducing a practice of dialogue.

 

Schedule

09:30 – 10:00 Welcome and introduction: Anastasia Badder (Divinity) & Daniel Moulin (Education)

10:30-11:30 'Practising dialogue': Panel reflections. Chair: Daniel Moulin

The panel will address questions including but not limited to:

  • What sparks meaningful dialogue?

  • What kinds of learning can dialogue facilitate?

  • What are the limits of dialogue?

  2. Speaking with things: an object workshop with Dr Anastasia Badder
  3. Scriptural reasoning: a text-based approach with the Cambridge Interfaith Programme
15:30 – 16:00 Plenary discussion: Reflection on practices of dialogue

The Faith & Belief Forum (faithbeliefforum.org) works towards a connected and supportive society where people of different faiths, beliefs and cultures have strong, productive and lasting relations. Founded as the Three Faiths Forum (1997), we became the Faith & Belief Forum in 2018, with the aim of building good relations between people of all faiths and beliefs. We work in schools, universities, communities and workplaces, creating spaces for facilitated encounter, and building skills and confidence in collaborating across difference.

Solutions Not Sides (solutionsnotsides.co.uk) has been teaching skills of empathy, active listening, communication, critical thinking and conflict resolution through exploration of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict since 2010. Our programme is based on three key values: non-violence, equality for all, and the rejection of hatred.
