As indicated on the form, applications must include:

• your contact details; 
• a statement about your background and experience (200 words maximum);
• a description of your interest in religion and climate futures (500 words maximum); 
• the name and contact details of a referee;  NB you must also arrange for your referee to submit a Letter of Recommendation directly—see below.
• a self-declaration of English language proficiency; 

We ask that you also include:

• notes about any special learning requirements. 

If you wish to be considered for a bursary, you should also answer the eligibility question on the final page. 

All applicants must arrange for a professional or academic Letter of Recommendation to be submitted directly by the recommender. Letters should be sent by email to cipsummer @ divinity.cam.ac.uk. 

Applicants cannot be considered without a Letter of Recommendation. Letters sent or forwarded by the applicant will not be accepted.

The fee payable varies according to the submission date of your application. There are three significant deadlines: 12 April,* 28 April, and 10 June.

Successful applications received on or before 28 April will be eligible for the early bird rate of £795 (non-residential) or £1125 (residential). 

We aim to process and review applications promptly, and will notify all early bird applicants of the result by 15 May at the latest.

For those applicants whose attendance is dependent upon a visa, we are operating an extra deadline of 12 April (responses by 19 April).

Note that this will not normally be relevant for citizens of the EU and USA, residents of the Schengen area, etc. (The UK government provide interactive guidance on who needs a visa to visit the UK on their website, gov.uk.)

Only applications from qualifying applicants (i.e. those who must also submit a visa application) will be considered at that date. We anticipate allocating up to one third of places and bursaries to this cohort of extra early applicants. Applications are handled on a case-by-case basis.

For those offered a place, CIP can provide a letter of invitation for the attention of the border authorities in support of your visa application. This will be supplied after you have accepted the place offered and paid the relevant fee.

The Summer School organisers are not responsible for visa decisions made by the UK government.

Applications received after 28 April will be processed and reviewed as soon as possible. If successful, these applications will be subject to the full fee of £1495 (residential) or £975 (non-residential).

Please note that to ensure a quality experience for all students, the total number of places is capped. We will operate a waiting list for any further candidates.

Due to limits on accommodation arrangements, it will not be possible to consider residential applications that arrive later than 10 June. If places remain, non-residential applications may be considered until 16 June.

We have reserved places for recipients of our bursary scheme. This scheme is intended to increase access for those who would not otherwise afford to participate, and support enrolment from persons working in non-profit contexts. 

Bursary recipients will pay a reduced fee of £745 (residential) or £375 (non-residential).

Those seeking a bursary may apply via the standard process at any time until the final deadline (16 June), or until all places are filled.

Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of bursaries once the early bird allocations have been made. Early application is therefore recommended.

Bursary recipients will be asked to submit a short report following successful completion of the Summer School.

Successful applicants will be informed by email. We may also need to contact you for further information. Please add the Summer School email address to your contacts. 

In the email, we will include a link to the University’s online store so that you can pay the registration fee. This will require a credit or debit card. (If your participation is funded by a third party, you may share this information with them so that they can make a payment on your behalf.)

Important: If you do not pay the registration fee and confirm your place within the specified period, the place may be withdrawn and offered to another applicant.

The University of Cambridge reserves the right to amend or withdraw registration discounts at any time.

Refunds: Residential fees include a non-refundable deposit of £375; non-residential fees include a non-refundable deposit of £245. This does not affect your statutory rights. Please see the Terms and Conditions for detailed information about refunds. 

We recognise that circumstances change, and those who register may later be unable to participate. Where a place can be reallocated to a different applicant, we may refund a portion of the deposit.

The fees cover tuition including facilitation of all scheduled sessions at the Faculty of Divinity and appropriate mentoring support for project work.

Students will also receive access to recommended readings and other media (video, podcasts, etc.) to assist in preparation for the different topics. 

Fees also cover access to optional extra-curricular activities including a film viewing and open mic event.

Lunch and breaktime refreshments from Monday to Friday, including vegetarian and vegan options. (Kosher and other specialist diets will be catered for, subject to at least 2 weeks’ advance request.)

By default, this will comprise one-way travel for the site visit to Cambridge Central Mosque. Students are encouraged to walk in the other direction, a mostly flat route with a walking time of approximately 35 minutes.

In case of bad weather or where there is specific need, return transport will also be organised.

The riverside field trip is suitable for pedestrians and wheelchairs. In case of bad weather, transport to a sheltered riverside venue may be facilitated in place of the field trip. 

A signed certificate of attendance will be issued on completion of the Summer School.

5 nights Bed & breakfast-style accommodation in Wolfson College, Cambridge beginning Sunday 30 June. 

Rooms are individual, with en suite shower and toilet facilities. Breakfast is a self-service buffet in an external building on the edge of the Wolfson campus. (The College dining facilities are undergoing renovation.)

The walking distance between Wolfson and the Faculty of Divinity is about 12 minutes. Students are responsible for their own transit.

All students are responsible for their own travel arrangements.

Citizens of some countries will require a visa to enter the UK. The online application process opens 3 months in advance of your visit and can take several weeks to complete. The application fee for Standard Visitor visa (6 months) is currently £115. Depending on local rules, you may also have to travel to the nearest visa issuing office as part of the vetting process.

Visit the UK Government website to check whether you need a visa (gov.uk). US and EU citizens will not normally need a visa.

Please arrange appropriate insurance to cover your travel and any medical expenses that may be incurred during your stay in Cambridge.

Evening meals are not included. Dining options are available at Wolfson College and at Selwyn College (budget around £10 per meal). 

Students are also welcome to dine elsewhere in Cambridge, and a list of possible dining spots will be available.

Self-catering is also possible for those staying at Wolfson College.

Kosher evening meals may be pre-ordered on request. (This requires 14 days’ notice. Please enquire about costs.)
