This Research Seminar subdivides into termly seminars for specialists in Islam, Judaism, and the religious traditions of India. Speakers may have premodern or contemporary interests, and may present papers on the basis of a very wide range of intellectual interests and disciplinary traditions.

February 4 – Dr Jonathan Duquette (Affiliated Lecturer, FAMES, University of Cambridge): “The Pandit’s Complaint: On the Decline of Religion in 19th-century India”

 

February 18 – Dr Naomi Appleton (Senior Lecturer in Asian Religions, Edinburgh): “The Body and the Dharma: Giving and Getting in Indian Buddhist Jātaka Literature”

 

February 25 –  Dr Uma Ananda Dagnino González (Hoffmann Academy): “Dance Aesthetics and Mysticism in Hinduism: the Case of Odissi”  (Room 5)

 

March 3  – Dr Christopher Jones (Affiliated Lecturer in Buddhist Studies, University of Cambridge): “Buddha-nature and Selfhood: Innovation and its Limits in Indian Buddhist Literature”
