Cambridge Interfaith Programme

Cover slide for Interfaith Futures—cross-sector conversations for UK Inter Faith Week 2024

On the brink of UK Inter Faith Week—the first national celebration of inter faith commitments since the closure of the UK Inter Faith Network last April—here’s a rundown of events in Cambridge, and beyond:

Monday 11 November: Launching #InterfaithFutures

We’re cultivating conversations about Interfaith Futures in partnership with Divinity postgraduates—bringing together cross-sector and intergenerational voices to probe the UK faith and belief landscape and its future with an eye to research, policy and practice. Conversations will be released on YouTube from Monday onwards & announced across our social media channels (LinkedInInstagramFacebook, etc.).

Tuesday 12 November: celebrating 50 years with the Cambridge GRU

We are delighted to collaborate with colleagues from Cambridge University Library’s Genizah Research Unit for the launch of their birthday volume: The Illustrated Cairo Genizah is a lavish 340-page book, cowritten by Dr Nick Posegay and Dr Melonie Schmierer-Lee. The first tranche of tickets sold out yesterday, so we’re delighted to say there are now more on sale—head to Heffers Eventbrite.com to book your Genizah spot.

For students in the Faculty of Divinity, there’s also a Tuesday lunchtime invitation to join Professor Daniel Weiss for an interactive workshop on Challenging assumptions, informed by CIP’s Scripture and Violence project: Learn more and request a place.

Thursday 14 November: R.E. Futures & more

On Thursday at 13:00, the Faith & Belief Forum will be premiering a trio of video interviews with R.E. professionals and researchers. A spin-out from the #InterfaithFutures series, find them on the F&BF YouTube Channel (youtube.com) or via the dedicated website: Interfaith Week for Schools (ifw4schools.co.uk).

Friday 15 November: Book your place at Tomáš Halík: a Cambridge conference.

With keynotes from the prize-winning philosopher-priest himself plus Karen Kilby, Charles Taylor, Alister McGrath and Rowan Williams, those with theological interfaith inclinations will not want to miss this opportunity. The conference is not till December, but 15 November is the registration deadline.

Not the only show in town: activities with friends of CIP

Maria Roca Lizarazu shares an invitation to bilingual discussion(s) with the authors of bestselling book Geboren, aufgewachsen und ermordet in Deutschland: Das zu kurze Leben meines Bruders Gökhan Gültekin und der Anschlag von Hanau (2024)—“Born, raised and murdered in Germany: on the short life of my brother Gökhan Gültekin and the Hanau attack”. More information & register for these bilingual discussions (required) via tiny.cc/gultekin

Dr Tobias Müller in CRASSH is co-organising “Decolonising the Academy: grassroots perspectives from colonised communities of resistance’. Featuring speakers from Mexico, South African, Peru and elsewhere. 4–7pm at the Department of Sociology, Free School Lane. Contact Tobias with queries.

The above notices also went out in our annual round-robin for Inter Faith Week. To hear from us regularly, sign up for free Interfaith emails at lists.cam.ac.uk.
