...in a contemporary Iranian Zoroastrian cemetery

Speaker: Dr Yasmin Ilkhani (Visiting researcher, Aga Khan University) 

Dr Ilkhani is an anthropologist, with interests in women's studies, religion and material anthropology. During her PhD, she carried out extensive fieldwork among Iranian Zoroastrians in Yazd, Iran. This focused on local Zoroastrian behaviour regarding laws of purity and pollution, especially laws pertaining to menstruation curtailment.

More recently, Dr Ilkhani has been working with Prof Philip Wood on group formations under the Abbasids in Iraq and the Levant. She has also carried out fieldwork among Benedictine nuns in North Yorkshire, UK, researching ideas of group formation and the Habitus.

Practicalities

This session is on site only. Light refreshments will be available from 1:30pm, with chance to meet the speaker before the seminar begins.
