Faith, Gender, and the Question of Agency

Women in religious communities have typically been seen as victims of patriarchy. This panel brings together scholars who have carried out research with women in religious movements and communities connected to Islam, Judaism and Christianity, to shed light on their lived realities. Each scholar takes a different approach to understanding women’s agency in these movements and communities – moving us beyond typical ‘compliance’ and ‘resistance’ approaches.

Organised by the Cambridge Centre of Islamic Studies, this Cambridge Festival panel features Dr Iman Dawood (CIS), Peach Hoyle (Divinity) and Hannah Fytche (Divinity). The chair is Kathleen McCulloch (Divinity).
