At the Faculty of Divinity, Hina Khalid and Dr Ankur Barua are hosting a celebration of South Asian music as theology.
As Senior Lecturer in Hindu Studies, Ankur incorporates discussion of a wide musical repertoire within his teaching: from Bollywood films to premodern variations on Hindu and Indo-Islamic devotional music. In these South Asian spaces, Hina explains, “music is food for the soul—theology comes alive when it strikes a chord in your heart”.
The songs are often densely rooted in distinctive cosmologies while treading tread lightly across religious borderlines. Join Ankur and Hina for a Friday afternoon session bringing these songs to life—Ankur will sing and invite audience reflections on each song’s themes.
All are welcome. Refreshments will be available.
This event is supported by the Cambridge Interfaith Research Forum small grant scheme.
